Week 16 Day 1

Today, we are practicing on how to frame a describe question. It was so hard, not because of the topic, it is because the TIME!!!! It is so hard, cause we need to keep our time, and in describe questions, we need to end up with 3 paragraphs of writing, and the time taken for us to frame the describe question is only about 8 minutes in the test, well actually, it depends on the points given, so let's get started!

1. Today, Mr. Rick didn't come late to class, in fact, he came before us! Wow! That's amazing! He came to class before us, he usually come after us, and sometimes, 3 minutes after most of the students come to class, but anyways, he came early, so it is good. The money that we are collecting is used for the pizza party! For a pizza party, we need about Rp. 300.000, and we almost have that much money, so yeah, we nearly get our pizza party! Yipeeeeeeeee!

Mr. Rick showed us the tips on how to write a good answer for a "describe" question! And this is what it looks like:

Hello!

2. After he showed us the tips on how to write a "describe" question, he asked us to answer his question, and it was: Describe what was the motives for the use of the guillotine?

And so, we need to answer it, and we used the tips that Mr. Rick gave us, and write the answer. The answer takes us about 8 minutes to answer it, because the point for this question is 5 points. Want to know how to calculate the time taken for us to answer this question? It is the (number of marks x 2) - 2= time taken for for us to answer the question!

The first thing that you need to do before answering the questions is that you need to know the time that needs to be taken for us to answer the question. Let's say the marks would be "m"

So, this is the formula: (m x 2) - 2 = time needed for you to answer the question. We are going to answer a describe question that gives you about 4 marks, so the time taken for us to answer this question is 4 x 2 = 8,  8 - 2 = 6. So, you've got 6 minutes to do this question.

Read the question carefully, and then after that, make a mind map in the paper that takes you about 30 seconds. Write down the ideas that could answer the question, and make sure you state as many as possible. Then, sadly, you must only choose 2. Make 2 lines in your mind map, and this means that you won't choose those answers.

After that, we write the descriptor, and we need to write the opening for it, and to write the opening, we write: One of ..... . Repeat the question, and answer with one of your points. Then make an argument that supports your answer. And finally, write your sources to prove your argument, it can be done by research and could be taken from a book, someone's saying or even the movie. We write the sources in Quotation marks " " to say exactly what the person is saying, but if you don't remember it exactly, you may write the word "that". Then, you write the 2nd point, and it is exactly the same as the 1st paragraph, but the opening uses the word: "Another".

After you made all of these, make the conclusion for it, this must be the writer's work of understanding, not the stating of sources, or anything like that. Then, after you are done writing those 3 parts, you are done, and may move to the next question.

You must also manage your time, and in a describe question, you only have 6 minutes to do it, so hurry! (6 minutes is the standard, but Mr. Rick is so kind, that he gave us more time! Yipeeeeeeee!)

3. While we are doing our work, Mr. Rick is enjoying his swirly chair, and this is what it looks like:

(A minecraft version)

After we are done with our describe questions, we exchange it to the other groups, so team Alpha exchanges with team Bravo! Yay! Wait... why not Delta????  Never mind... Alpha and Bravo's team members are the same, so yeah, we exchange our papers!

One of the member of the Spring team took a picture of the thing that she did, so this is what it looks like:

This isn't taken in school, it is taken at home! (hehehehe)

4. On what we can improve, we can improve by trying to listen to the teacher whenever he is explaining, everything that the teacher say is meaningful.

Week 15, Class 2

Today we have a field trip. Yipeeeeeee! But when we reached that place, almost everything was broken, so we weren't that excited to have the field trip, it was so boring, all we do is checking the science stuff (which was quite fun), chinese monument stuff, and there is apparently nothing to do there, so it was pretty boring then the last one is what we have been waiting for, it was watching IMAX or something, and before the video starts, we waited for 30 minutes and then the system broke down, so we were wasting our time.

According to everyone, they say that this is the "worst" field trip ever! We should have studied in school and have all the knowledge, but we go to that place, so yeah.... we wasted our time!

Week 15, Class 1

Today, we are practicing how to write the answers on a describe question, and it was a lot of fun. This practice isn't just for fun, it is for a test net week, and FYI, it is a semester exam. Only for History, because we have 2 parts for history exams, 1 that is written down which is way harder than the one that is made in schoology, it is computer based.

1. Today was awesome, Mr. Rick didn't came late, instead some students come late, isn't that weird? So, if the teacher came late, the students don't but if the student came late, the teacher don't. That is super weird, but anyways, let's get back on track.

Today, we are going to practice how to answer describe questions, and this is Mr. Rick showing us the pdf, slide or whatever you call it.

There are tips on how to answer the describe questions.

3. Then, Mr. Rick asked the whole class to answer his describe question and it was hard work, this time, he gave us 10 minutes to do the thing, which is like 2x the normal time that you will have. It was still too little amount of time. But anyways, we did it. This is what Mr. Rick looks like when he was telling the class:

There was only 1 person in the class who got it all right, and that person was from the Spring team. Isn't that amazing, there was also 1 more person from the Spring team who got it all right, but when Mr. Rick checked it, that person only got some of them correct.

4. On what we can do better next time is to try to listen to Mr. Rick's lecture, so that we won't ask 1 person from the group who is listening, and this happened a lot of times in the school, so let's try not to do so.

I hope you guys would enjoy this blog update. Thanks!

Week 14, Class 2

Today, there is no History classes, because today is good friday, and it is the day when Jesus Christ was crucified, thank you Lord for your blood and your body. Thank you very much. And, to today I will go to IES church, see you there.

Week 14, Class 1

Today is extra fun, and unique. We did not have Ldls at all, and it is awesome, but we have a video in exchange for the Ldl, so let's get started.

1. So, today, Mr. Rick came late to class, and he doesn't have the right amout of money, he only have Rp.10.000 and it is twice the value of the actual cost of the infraction which is Rp.5000 and the treasurer doesn't have the right amount of money to give the change back to Mr. Rick, because she left the money at hoe, so she have to give Mr. Rick an IOU which is jus like a piece of paper that have the 3 big letters, IOU and the date of when he owes the treasurer money with a signature on it.

Today was started by a lecture by Mr. Rick and it was awesome, the lecture only have 4 slides and he explained the first 2 slides in a very long amount of time, and maybe he wants to talk more about the rest of the slides because he knows the topic in his gut, but he can't because if he lectures the class for more than 20 minutes, he will get an infraction, and he has to pay another Rp.5000, but he didn't so he don't pay his Rp.5000.

After all this happened, he lectures the class, and it is about "Why was Napoleon defeated?"

2. So, the topic of Mr. Rick's lecture is the about Napoleon, so let's get started! In business and governing things, there are 3 types of poison and they are Nepotism, Corruption and Collusion.

So, first thing's first, Nepotism is the practice of giving friends or family a great power like becoming king, queen, emperor. Wait... did this happened to Napoleon? Napoleon had all of his brothers and sisters to be a great queen, king or something else that is ruling.

The second one is the corruption, well, there are 2 types of corruption in the whole wide world (Just Kidding)... and they are bribing, giving money or favors to somebody to get an extra special favor from them. It is like a friend buying lots of snacks and share it to everyone so that they can be his friend. This is a bad thing to do in business. The second or as you all say, the last one is extortion, and it is when the leader forces you to pay money for a favor. So it is like friend not being friends with you anymore, and then, you need to pay in order for you to be friends with him or her again.

The last one is *finally...* *pant.. pant*  collusion, and it is when someone secretly plot something to destroy the government or business. (doing this is like a bad kitty)

3. Then, we had a video. It was so interesting, but anyways, it is educational too.

There were 2 videos, and this is the 1st video:

Then, in this video, many kings and queens were called to meet Napoleon, and it seems like a family gathering, and it turns out that they are Napoleon's brothers and sisters. They became kings and Queens of all places. Amazing. Maybe this is the reason why Spain and France work together to try and defeat Britain. The King of Spain who is Joseph is the brother of Napoleon, and they work together to defeat the Britain. (I think.... Sorry if it is wrong)

Then we have another video because the video before was too short, and the next video is quite long, so yeah, we need to take notes on the video and later on, it would be helpful during tests. So, this is what it looks like:

The video was too long that we need to continue it next class, but... this Friday is a holiday, it is Good Friday!!!! Yay! Thank you jesus for dying in the cross for us!

So, what we understand from the video (the long one), is that Napoleon was born in Corsica in a poor family. One day, his mother wanted to give birth to Napoleon, but she can't walk anymore, so she end up giving birth to Napoleon on a sofa, and he turns out to be a genius, so does giving birth in a sofa means that people will be a genius? What about Einstein, where was he born on, a chair? *wkwkwkwk* Then, he went to school, he was a fast learner, he did a program that requires 2 years, but he did it in just 1 year, he did twice as fast. He was a great artillery man. At the age of 24, he became a general. Then, after years of doing that, Napoleon met a girl named Josephine Beauharnais. And on 1796, he got married with her. Napoleon was still a general, and he led the war, so his tactics were simple, first, Napoleon divides his troops into 2 and each defeat the left wing and then the right wings. They did it one by one. Then, the troops landed in Egypt, and he found the Rosetta stone.

The story wasn't done yet, because there is not enough time. *why?!*

4. On what we can do better next time is that we need to take notes even if it is just a video, instead of looking at pictures of the moon.

Week 13, Class 2

Today is very fun, we don't have any team teachings, so it is awesome!

1. Today is supposed to be a "field trip" day, but the school canceled it, so we had normal classes. For History class, Mr. Rick comes on time for classes, wow! It has been 2 days in a row that he came so early, but anyways, he came early, so it is good. *woo hoo*

So, at the start of class, he did his usual stuff like he always did, he checked who would be the teacher to teach the team, and, surprisingly, there was no one teaching the team, so we end up with a longer lecture for the day and we supposed to give him an infraction if he does that, but we don't. Anyways, let's get back on track!

Then, the class starts with a lecture of "Napoleon, first European?" This is what it looks like:

While Mr. Rick is lecturing the whole class, everyone take notes on their laptop, and this is what it looks like:

Well, maybe they are not taking notes there, because the photographer in the team took a picture at part 3 of class which is still the lecture, but after he is done with the lecture, we can do the activity. *yay!*

2. During the lecture, Mr. Rick lectured us about this:

By 1799, France was at the point of collapse, and had been soundly beaten by their enemies. Napoleon was the only one who could save France, so he tried to save France. France was already beaten by the British in the sea war, so there is no point of trying to beat them up physically. Luckily Napoleon was there to save France, and with his brainiac brain, he suggested that the French is supposed to break their economy, and they did! *woo hoo! Go Napoleon Bonaparte!*

By 1810, Napoleon made France the most important country all over Europe! Isn't that amazing? Then, the Romans controlled much territory. The Romans are very smart, they were the ones who invented tiles, roads, central system (where you control heat and cold air in that place) So, there would be people, usually the slaves to pump the pumper so that the heat will travel through the pipes, and it sounds cool, but anyways, let's get back on track! The Romans invented many more things. They were awesome!

So, the French tried to improve themselves by using a tactic which is quite smart, they are willing to do the commonwealth, and this was a very good idea, Commonwealth is an international association consisting of the UK and the British.

3. After the lecture is done, we don't have any LDLs or team teachings, so it is quite good for the whole class, and we thought that we are going to have tech time, which is kind of a free time for the Historians, but we have part 3 of class and it is something to do with research, first Mr. Rick shows us lots of maps, and these are the maps that he showed us.

Then, there are a few questions for us to answer, and this is what it looks like:

And, we have to answer them together as a team, so we did it in google docs! This is what it looks like:

4. On what we can do better next time is to make every single one of the team to work together. (Kris didn't work on this at all). We also have to have the courage to do stuff.

Week 13, Class 1

Today is super unique! This is the first time in forever that the fifth teacher teach the team. So, let's get started!
1. Today, Mr. Rick comes to class on time. Before class starts, we had a little activity, and it was something that I couldn't remember at all, so sorry about that, I forgot what happened, but luckily, there was a picture of it, and this is what it looks like:

Then, after all these things happen, Mr. Rick teaches the whole class, or as you say in History classes, Lecture! And this is what it looks like when Mr. Rick is "lecturing" the whole class:

(Hee hee, a bit of Anthea's head there, sorry Anthea!)

Then, we did a bit of research on 1 of our topics for today which is the Laissez-faire, and this is what it looks like:

2. During the Revolution, many things are destroyed, and Napoleon is the guy that needs to fix all that... *good grief* Napoleon can fix all this when he is a good leader. There are 3 types of leadership: Autocratic leadership, Democratic leadership and Laissez-faire.

In autocratic leadership, the leader, or as you all say, the boss is the only one who gives out the ideas and the other members are just like the minions, they are the ones who just follow what the boss said, and the do it very well. They must follow the boss, or else something bad will happen to them. *Uh Oh*. This type of leadership is a bad type of leadership, please try to avoid leading a team or anything in this way.

In democratic leadership, it is the leadership from the middle. So, there are people giving advice to the leader and the leader tries to accept it, and listen ad respect to whatever they said. They still listen even though he is not the boss, and this type of leadership rocks!

The last one is Laissez-faire. This leadership is from the bottom. The leader don't even sound like a leader, because he or she is part of the team. The leader and the team work together. This way of leadership is very hard and it requires a long time to do all these stuff. This makes it sound like it will last forever.

Napoleon made the biggest mistake ever! Well, not technically the biggest mistake ever, but he would regret that he had done this if he noticed and if he could change it. He chose to be an autocratic leader which is not good at all, well... maybe, it is good, but not that good. But anyways, he just need to fix things, so yeah... it is quite okay, but it would have been better if he did the Laissez-faire thingy.

3. After all the lecture is done, we have the team teaching or as we historians say: LDL! And, Mr. Rick, as usual did the "cool" thing with his desk, by banging it, and say: "Teach" Then we all said:" Okay!" So, first thing's first, let's get started with the teaching, and today, Kris is teaching the team, and this is what it looks like:

Oh yeah, this is the first time that he is teaching the team, and he is totally not used to teaching at all, we can tell, because he speaks so soft and mumbles all the way through. One of the team member nearly fall asleep, but luckily, someone woke her up. It is okay for Kris to be like this, perhaps he will do better next time, if we will ever teach again. Remember... KaiZen!

While he was teaching the team, Mr. Rick is roaming around the room looking at everyone's progress while grading them on how well have they done, and this is what it looks like:

Uh... *Hi* So friendly... But anyways, let's move on!

4. On what we can do better next time is that we could try to teach better and try not to mumble and make people fall asleep. *no offense*

I hope that you enjoyed it. Blessings!  :D

Week 12, Class 2

Today, is just like any other day, no worries, no more April fools, but, we have the last teachers who will teach for this round. *Yipee!*

1. Today, Mr. Rick doesn't come to class late, good job, but bad job... wait... that doesn't make sense... *tee hee*, but anyways, let's get started!

So, at the start of the day, Mr. Rick did his usual routine, he checked who will be the teacher for today, and in our team, Anthea is going to teach, this is what it looks like when he is checking the names in his clipboard:

Then, the class starts! Mr. Rick starts the class by giving the lecture, today's lecture is about "Did Napoleon betray the Revolution?".

2. Napoleon is a smart guy, he did a 2 year study in just 1 year! Isn't that amazing? But anyways, he was awesome. After being that awesome thing, he was crowned as the king, and he ruled more than the other kings, he ruled for 15 years, and the other kings only ruled for less than 2 years.
In the middle of Mr. Rick's lecture, he reminded us about the left wings and the right wings, the left wings are the liberals, they are the radicals (Jacobins), it means that they want to have changes, and they are also known as the crazy ones! The right wings are the conservatives, they want to conserve the place and make it traditional, they are the calm Girondins!
People tired of the politican instability and welcomed a strong leader. Napoleon thinks that he was a good leader already! So, he said: "I intend to keep the Revolution's useful changes, but not to abandonthe good institutions it mistakenly destroyed..."
Back then, there was a revolution, an there were obviously leaders to lead them, the leaders are the nobles and the aristocrats! They were the ones who lead the army, but they killed the aristocrats, so they have no leader to lead them during the battle. :( *Sigh*
To stop all these bad things, there were the Émigrés, these people are the ones who get out of a country. The Émigrés are going out of the country to get  support from their dear friend, the Germans. They pretend to support the Revolution, and then, they take over the country, and this is called a "Coup d'état"! *So Bad!*
3. Then, there was team teaching! Before anything, Mr. did his routine of hitting the table and then he shouted "Teach!" Then, we respond the same exact thing, except, the difference is that we don't say "Teach!", we say "OK!" (2 simple words right there...). But anyways, let's get back on track, so first thing's first, we have the teachings, and this is what it looks like, when the teacher teach the team, and the teacher for this team is Anthea. This is what it looks like when she is teaching the team:

While she was teaching the team, Mr. Rick is going around the room, and grading the teachers, and this is what it looks like:

After the teaching is done, we had a little activity, and it is about RESEARCHING again! The things that we need to research on is the comparative evidence for what happens before and after Napoleon, we have 5 different choices, since 1 team member doesn't come, we chose 4 of them, and the choices are:

- Government
- Individual rights
- Education
- The Church
- Social classes

We are asked to write it in Google Docs, so we did it! And this is what it looks like:

(There are other tabs, from the uses, sorry if it is disturbing)

While we are doing this work, Mr. Rick doodle on the board, and it is quite cool like so:

Then he told us, there is an ocean of knowledge, and the text book is the funnel, If you use the textbook, then you will only get drops, but if you don't use the funnel, you will be swimming there in the ocean of knowledge! This means: (according to Mr. Rick...) Ditch the book!

There is also another section of the drawing, he doodle on the topics, so, 1st, we take 2 topics, then we research on it and we will reach a point where it makes a lot of sense then we will just need to make it in a power point version!  This is what it looks like when Mr. Rick is explaining it to us:

We aren't done with the work, so we will do it for homework. *Noooooo!* We have homework, but it is okay!

4. On what we can improve better next time is to cover 1 to 2 topics and do it deeply for the presentation instead of just covering all the topics, and not explaining them deeply!

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Week 12, Class 1

Today is like any usual day, we have our normal teachings. But, Happy April Fools, and we can't prank you, so yeah...

1. Today is the first day of History class of the term. Yahoo! We are back to school. We are so excited for History class. Then, we get in the History room. Before the class starts, the whole class is discussing about History topics, but some are just chatting about everything happening in the world, and this is what it looks like:

Then, we did book checks and other checks, many people got caught in the book check so yay yeah! We can get more money for the pizza box, well, we technically don't have a pizza box, we just have the money without the box, but anyways, this is what it looks like when we are doing the book check:

(So sorry that it is quite blur, because 1 member of the team shook the computer, so it looks like that, but anyways, it is worth it to be posted in the blog).

Then, the treasurer, Iva, reminded him, that he needs to pay his Rp.5000 from the IOU (this is made when someone owes the treasurer money) before, so he pays the IOU to Iva, but he doesn't have enough, so he got another IOU for being late today. *sigh* This is what it looks like:

Hmm, usually, he put his money in his pocket, but now, it is in his bag... weird, but anyways, let's move on!

After all the money is tucked out of people's pockets, we start our classes. The class is first started by Mr. Rick teaching the whole class about the topic for today, and it is about "Coup d'état"! This topic is quite awesome, it somehow more interesting than the other topics, because it is quite unique, but anyways, this is what it looks like when Mr. Rick is teaching the whole class.

Well... that is technically not Mr. Rick teaching the class *Hi*, but he was teaching till he saw the flash coming out from the camera, so it ended up like that. So friendly...

While Mr. Rick is lecturing the lecture notes, our group took notes, and this is what it looks like:

After some time, we reach to the topic of Napoleon's wife, and she is Joséphine de Beauharnais, and we did a little research on her, this is what the research look like:

After that, we talked about the 1st prime minister of Singapore, but mr. Rick forgot his name, so he asked us to search it, at first w found out that his name is Lee Hsien Loong, and Mr. Rick agrees to that, but 1 person from our team shouts out the real person, and it is Lee Kwan Yew. And Mr. Rick said that Lee Kuan Yew was the right person, so we searched what he did for Singapore, and it was incredible, he did this:

He is still alive until now...

2. Mr. Rick is lecturing us the topic, French Revolution. Today, we are learning about "Coup d'état" it is pronounced "Koo-de-ta" (according to Mr. Rick). This is the illegal seizure of the government.
After the terror ended in 1794, he Jacobins and their supporters, the Sans-culottes, were edged out of power. People and politicians are slowly moving back to the center towards moderate forms of government.

There are 2 sides of people, the left and the right. The left or the liberals are the ones who are radical, or as we all say, the crazy ones. The example of these people are the Jacobins, they are supported by the Sans-cullotesThe right or the right wings are the conservatives, these are the people who would like to conserve the traditional way of doing things. The example of these people are the Girondins, they are the total opposite of the Jacobins.

After all these things, Mr. Rick ask us to do a simple research about our first 2 presidents, and they are Soekarno and Suharto ( I think I misspelled them) *hee hee*, Mr. Rick ask half of each team to divide into 2, so we did exactly like so. We are divided, Jennifer, Anthea and Daphne in a team to research about Soekarno, and Kim Hyun and Kris research on Suharto. This is what it looks like when we did the research of Soekarno and Suharto:

The Suharto is with the other person in the team, and she didn't took a picture of it, so we can't put it in the blog.  But at least we can post on of them in the blog for you guys to see it.

3. Then Mr. Rick did his usual thing, he bangs the table, and then shouted: TEACH! Then our response is: bang the table and then we shout: OKAY! *LOL*

We started to teach, and this is what it looks like:

This teacher doesn't allow her head to be taken for the blog, so it looks weird, because there's no head, and the one who is teaching is the one at the very edge, standing up.

While everyone else is teaching each other, Mr. Rick is roaming around the room with his clipboard of grades... and he grades everyone, and this is what it looks like:

Well, he isn' technically grading the team, he poses whenever he sees the camera, so yeah, that is what it looks like. (Hi!)

4. On what we can improve better next time is just try to tell the teacher what you are thinking, even though the teacher already got the answer, people make mistakes, we can sometimes correct them..
