Week 4, Class 1

This day is different from the usual days, usually, we have team teaching, and today we don't because we have other stuff to do, like recalling the types of questions we can encounter during the Cambridge exams. And for today, we discussed about the questions, and we try to answer it using the method that Mr. Rick gave us during the first semester.

  1. Today, no one caught for doing the infractions, so the whole class just start with the lesson. First of all, he shows us 2 videos.
                  This is the first video.

                  This is the second video.
While the video is playing, the whole class pays attention to the video.

The Group also watched the video.

Even Mr. Rick watch the video....

2. After both videos are done, Mr. Rick lectures to the whole class about "Changes in France".

The whole class takes notes as Mr. Rick is lecturing.

       The group also take notes...

There were lots of discussion. Mr. Rick lectured about the "Changes in France" topic. Well... according to the book and any other resources, there are lots of Changes in France. One of the problem is about the taxation. People in France are asked for taxes, and everyone should pay, but in this case, only the 3rd estates pay the taxes, and it was a burden for them, and the 1st and 2nd estates barely payed a thing, so the 3rd estates got kind of mad. The 3rd estates are the middle classes, they are not that rich and obviously not the nobility and they have no royalty at all, and yet, they payed the most tax among the other estates. The 3rd estates really don't want to pay the taxes, just like the nobilities. Others who don't have money have to pay feudal dues which is 50% of their wages. Usually, the feudal dues that come from the nobilities pay their taxes with their lives (help during the war). But now there is no war, so they sit like lazy people. The second problem is that the 3rd estates are working very hard to pay their taxes, while the 1st and 2nd estates are just relaxing and enjoy their lives, without being bothered, because they have lots of money and they don't have to pay taxes.

3.  After the lecture is done, Mr. Rick said that we have something to do with papers, so Mr. Rick distributed the papers and we need to do as he said, so what he said is that the whole class needs to write the question he said into the paper, and everyone did exactly that, after that, Mr. Rick ask us to convert the question that he said into "describe" questions. Mr. Rick's question is "Why did the French Revolution started?", then the whole class try to change the question into "describe" question, and we come up something like this "Describe the reason why the French Revolution started." Then we got it correct. The next thing is to convert it into an "explain" question. The Spring team converts it into something that goes like this: "Explain why does the French Revolution start." Then the Spring team got it correct, so the next thing we need to do is to answer it. But he ask us to draw a circle and write the answers there, in the 6 branches.

Mr. Rick ask us to do a little bit of research, and we did the research on pictures...

We did this together and we discussed and argue a lot.

After we are done on coming up with the ideas, Mr. Rick ask everyone to come up with the 2 best ideas and that are most related to each other. So we come up with this....

But, we aren't done with it, so we have it for homework.

4. On the things we need to improve on is that we need to work on things faster, so that we will have lesser homework. :)

Week 3, Class 2

  1. Today's topic is about "What was life like before the French Revolution?" This is the 2nd time we learned about this topic. Mr. Rick divides this topic into 2 parts, and this is the second part. This is Mr. Rick reminding us about the 3 estates ( it is just a recap for us in preparation to watch the video):

While Mr. Rick is lecturing, the class takes notes on Section 1 of the coursework file (place where we take notes):

Today, Mr. Rick didn't lecture much, and so, he gave us a video to watch. This is the video that we watched. Well, it isn't only that scene that we watch, but we watched more than that, this frame is only in the half part of the video, so the video runs for about 5 minutes than this lady pops out in the screen.....

The whole class watched the video, and they loved it and enjoyed it, but some are just stressed out, because the person in the video speaks quite fast.

The group also watched the video, but we can't take a picture of the whole team, because the computer camera can't take the whole thing.

    2. After the video, Mr. Rick tells us more about the French Revolution, and he spotted an infraction, (we have an agreement in History that we need to pay Rp. 2000 to the pizza box whenever there is an infraction),  Mr. Rick in this case is the one who spotted the infraction, it looks like this:

Those 3 boys at the back are the ones who got the infractions, so they payed this to the pizza box.

There are infractions like talking when someone is talking, comming late to class, for the girls: their hair tied back, for the boys: their under shirt, the under shirt musn't be below the uniform. And luckily, everyone followed these rules well, but except for the 3 boys at the back of the class who don't follow the rules.

    3. Then we have the teachings, the teacher for today is Anthea, she is supposed to be the teacher for last week, but she was absent, so Kim Hyun Joo replaced her teaching, and Anthea replace Kim Hyun Joo's teaching which is today.

She prepared the presentation quite okay, and luckily, it is 10 minutes long, and everyone is asked to do a 10 to 15 minutes long presentation, so she is just right in doing the presentation, at least.

Then the team writes down the notes in section 2 of the coursework file.

    4. What we can do better is that we can be more diligent in doing our work. We also need to write more notes when Mr. Rick is lecturing to us.

Week 3 Class 1

  1. We discussed only about 1 topic it is about "What was life like during the French Revolution?" But we still need to do some things right. we missed the teaching on week 2 class 1, so we need  to do the teaching twice today. the 2 teachers that teach today was Kim Hyun Joo, for the 2nd topic "Was France well governed before the Revolution?" and Daphne teaches the topic for today, she teaches the topic "What was life like before the Revolution?" it was awesome, After Kim Hyun Joo teaches us the topic about "Was France well governed before the revolution, the team gets a little bit of idea about the lives and classes of people. the king, as always is has the highest authority, then the first estate, after that is the second estate and finally the third estate. But all this changes before the Revolution, this is what Daphne teaches the whole team: according to the book and what Daphne teaches us, she said that the lives of people changed before the Revolution, but of course, the king is the highest, then the first estate, second estate, third estate, well the third estate is divided into 4 they are the middle class, peasants, landless laborers and the urban workers. Daphne and Kim Hyun Joo didn't talk that much because they aren't that prepared, Kim Hyun Joo just prepared it before she teach and Daphne spent only 20 minutes of researching, and she is supposed to research at least one minute or so.
  2. There were lots of discussions, they are really related to the topic in History, we discussed about the lives of people, and we end up into an argument, but not really big argument, but just a small one, because we don't want anyone to see us arguing, because it will be shameful, but anyways, we discussed lots of topics. One of the topic that we discussed is about the lives of people, and their arrangement, 1 side of the table says that it isn't fair, but the other side of the table said that it is like that, then we end up into an argument. One of the member of the spring team asked a BHQ to Daphne, and she asked why does the king always get the highest power, and she said that it is because of the principle.
  3. Daphne tech the team about "What was life like before the French Revolution?" and one more teacher teach the team today, she is Kim Hyun Joo, she thought the spring team about "Was France well governed before the Revolution?"  They both are okay in teaching history, but unfortunately, they both aren't that prepared yet.
  4. The team's performance is awesome, we take notes during Mr. Rick's lecture, but we need to take in more notes so that we can get as much information as possible. This class time is the tough one, we have 2 teachers when there is supposed to be only 1 teacher, but our next class will be awesome, and we will get back on track.

Week 2, Class 2

1. We discussed 2 topics today, but only 1 teacher in the group teach, and it is the teacher from week 2 class 1, so we don't have the week 2 class 2 teacher teaching, and only the week 2 class 1 teacher teach, then today's teacher will teach next week. We discussed about both "How was the France revolution been remembered" and " Was France well governed before the Revolution" these topics are awesome, Louis the 16th marry Marie Antoinette. They both rule France.

2. There was a discussion for this topic, we discussed it in class. We also emailed each other, but only one teacher teach the group, so we emailed each other for nothing earlier, but it is okay. There is no BHQ for the topic " Was France well governed before the Revolution?" because there is no teacher that teach the group, so no one asked anything.

3. No body teach the team about "Was France well governed before the Revolution?", but there is a teacher who teach about " How has the Revolution been remembered?", and it is Jennifer. She teaches the team in an awesome way, according to the team, she is well prepared for this presentation. While she is teaching, the team writes notes on what the teacher is lecturing, they write it in section 2 of the coursework file. After Jennifer teaches the team, the whole team graded her in the team scorecard, and the scribe is the only one who can write in the scorecard, and Jennifer is the scribe for the team, so she helps the team to fill in the LDL scorecard.

4. The team's performance is awesome, we take notes during Mr. Rick's lecture, but we need to type a bit faster, cause we need to improve continually for it, like KaiZen.

Week 2, Class 1

We had a holiday for today, so we don't have History courses, but for surely, the History course will be done on Friday this week, and we won't get left behind, so we will do 2 topics for Friday.

1. Today (if it wasn't a holiday), we discussed about how the France Revolution was remembered. It was awesome, the Bastille castle was turned into  prison, and the Guillotine was invented by Dr. Joseph Ignace Guillotin. The Guillotine is way better than getting your head cut off by an axe or anything like that, when your head is chopped off by the guillotine, you can't feel anything, and it is good. It was also the 200th anniversary of France. The Bastille prison was also demolished that time.

2. There was a discussion for this topic. we discussed this topic by email. we talked together there, well, not necessarily talk, but we communicate there. One of the team asked a BHQ, and she asked this: "who is the king at that time?", and the teacher for this topic said that it is Louis the 16th, and everyone was amazed.

3. Jennifer teaches the team about the "How has the Revolution been remembered?" It was awesome, all she did was flash the power points and don't look at the screen too much, and plus, she knows what she is talking about.

4. The team's performance is awesome. we can improve by taking down the notes that Mr. Rick said and not the ones on the powerpoint, because we can take the ones in the powerpoint later on when we are at home.

Week 1 Class 1 and 2

This is the first week of school, we didn't study much, but Mr. Rick lectures something to us, it is to be a player and not a soccer ball.

1. We discuss about being a player instead of being a soccer ball. we ll need to be a player and not a soccer ball. Mr. Rick tells us how to be a player instead of a soccer ball, and it is awesome, it is way more awesome to be a player rather than being a soccer ball. if we are soccer balls, we need to be kicked, or else we won't move, it means that we are pushed by our teachers to do stuff, but if we are a player, we will just kick the ball, and can win the game, and we can move on our own, it means that if we are players, we are more independent and are more discipline, and it lead to success.

2. There are discussions today, we discussed about being a player and not being a soccer ball.

3. There are no teachings for today, because it is the first week of school, and Mr. Rick doesn't ask us to teach about anything. It was great. We get into teams, it is our four pack, there are the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta etc...  there are groups from A-G, but in our class, there are only 4 groups, they are from A-D. Our team is the Alpha, but our team name is Spring.

4. The team's performance is awesome, we did great today, and we don't teach, so there can't be anything to improve on. When we start to teach, we can look back at Semester 1 and see what are our weaknesses when we did the teaching, so we can prevent them from happening again, so that it will be easier and we will improve like "KaiZen" it is a continual improvement and we will continue to improve if we try harder and strive harder.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures yet, but later, there will be pictures in the blog.  :D

Handouts

The handouts that the teacher in the team give is orally, and the teachers usually have some questions at the end of their slides, and give them out during the class time if the time fits, but if there is not enough time, the teacher won't be able to give the questions and would just give them out during study or reading time in school!

Handouts are very fun to do, but it requires lots of time for us to frame one, because we also need to know the answers to them and not just making them any how without knowing the answer!

Mr. Rick told the Spring team that "section 3" isn't supposed to be filled in, but we just filled some in, just in case, and to verify what he said, one of the team member of the Spring team asked him through email and Schoology message, and he always said that "section 3" isn't needed to be posted in the bog, so we won't need to post this "handouts" section.

If you want to see the example of what a handout is supposed to look like, it looks like this:

Daily notes on the application of Kaizen

·      Kaizen is a philosophy of "continuous improvement".
·      Although originally started by Henry Ford in the USA, it's been developed and used by Toyota, who now technically controls the largest car-producing company in the world.
·      The cool thing about Kaizen is that everyone runs the company...! All employees are encouraged to produce at least 5 suggestions to improve the company each year.
·      In a single year, Toyota implemented over 95% of the suggestions put forth by all of the staff.
·      Toyota has not laid off a single employee since the 1950's! :)
·       Now that's cool... all based on Teamwork :)
·      The Sino-Japanese word "kaizen" simply means "good change", with no inherent meaning of either "continuous" or "philosophy" in Japanese dictionaries or in everyday use. The word refers to any improvement, one-time or continuous, large or small, in the same sense as the English word "improvement".
·      However, given the common practice in Japan of labeling industrial or business improvement techniques with the word "kaizen" (for lack of a specific Japanese word meaning "continuous improvement" or "philosophy of improvement"), especially in the case of oft-emulated practices spearheaded by Toyota, the word Kaizen in English is typically applied to measures for implementing continuous improvement, or even taken to mean a "Japanese philosophy" thereof. Kaizen is a daily process, the purpose of which goes beyond simple productivity improvement.
·      It is also a process that, when done correctly, humanizes the workplace, eliminates overly hard work ("muri"), and teaches people how to perform experiments on their work using the scientific method and how to learn to spot and eliminate waste in business processes.
·      In all, the process suggests a humanized approach to workers and to increasing productivity: “The idea is to nurture the company's human resources as much as it is to praise and encourage participation in kaizen activities."
·       Successful implementation requires "the participation of workers in the improvement."
·       People at all levels of an organization participate in kaizen, from the CEO down to janitorial staff, as well as external stakeholders when applicable.
·      The format for kaizen can be individual, suggestion system, small group, or large group.
·      At Toyota, it is usually a local improvement within a workstation or local area and involves a small group in improving their own work environment and productivity.
·      This group is often guided through the kaizen process by a line supervisor; sometimes this is the line supervisor's key role.
·      Kaizen on a broad, cross-departmental scale in companies, generates total quality management, and frees human efforts through improving productivity using machines and computing power.
·      While kaizen (at Toyota) usually delivers small improvements, the culture of continual aligned small improvements and standardization yields large results in the form of compound productivity improvement.
·      This philosophy differs from the "command and control" improvement programs of the mid-twentieth century.
·      Kaizen methodology includes making changes and monitoring results, then adjusting. Large-scale pre-planning and extensive project scheduling are replaced by smaller experiments, which can be rapidly adapted as new improvements are suggested.
·      In modern usage, it is designed to address a particular issue over the course of a week and is referred to as a "kaizen blitz" or "kaizen event".
These are limited in scope, and issues that arise from them are typically used in later blitzes.
